For two days, 39 teams and individuals, a total of 67 sports pilots and passionate amateur teams, showed off their skills in seven competition disciplines. With fantastic spring weather and a great atmosphere, the wind tunnel literally ran hot.
Many goosebump moments, tingling excitement and – as the participants and guests confirmed – the cozy atmosphere in the Windwerk ensured an exuberant atmosphere and the best conditions for competition. The only downer: some skydivers had to admit defeat to the coronavirus and cancel their participation at short notice.
The spectators learned a lot about the rather unknown sport of indoor skydiving. For example, they were amazed at the dry runs of the athletes, who practiced their formations on the ground in preparation for their competition before entering the wind tunnel. And similar to video evidence in football, the judges had to carry out several “reviews” to identify possible busts (mistakes) in the performance. In the end, the following skydivers won the competition:
- Formation Skydiving 4-way: AIRHEADS
- Formation Skydiving 2-way: NOS DOS
- Mixed Formation Skydiving 2-way: REALFLY DEVIL
- Dynamic 2-way: REALFLY
- Dynamic 4-way: TSCHABY WINDWERK
- Freestyle: CHRIGI MOOR
- Dynamic Solo Speed: BENJAMIN from the REALFLY team
Congratulations!!!
The winners went home with a medal and free flight time for further training sessions. The Swiss Championships are also a qualifying competition for the second European Championships and the fourth World Cup, which will take place in Charleroi (Belgium) from April 6 to 9, 2022.
In addition to all the other fantastic athletes who made the championships something special on the two competition days, we would like to present two teams here: SiRo-Gravity, the next generation and youngest participants. Sina and Robin say about themselves: “Young, motivated and possibly the instructors of tomorrow!” Stay tuned for more! For Team Magic Gray, the name says it all. According to Raymond, the “average age is 59, but they’re the coolest. Train hard – have fun”. Or in Rébecca’s words: “Quite old, but cool. We try hard and always have fun.” That’s exactly how it should be.
We would like to thank our sponsors Sky Helmets, Swiss Skydive, AXA, the city of Winterthur and Sportplanet Winterthur, Best Catering Winterthur, Chopfab, Red Bull, all the athletes, partner companies and helping hands. A big thank you goes to the Windwerk team, who gave their all on these two days and also during the preparations. Huere guet!!! It was a great pleasure to host the Swiss Championships!
