PEOPLE PARTICULARLY APPRECIATE OUR OPEN MANNER
“They give us a very special feeling of gratitude. To feel and experience their joy – one of the most beautiful things there is!”
Sandro Walther – Chief Instructor
We have already welcomed many people with disabilities, including wheelchair users, and provided them with unforgettable flying experiences. It is important to us that everyone is in safe and supportive hands with us.
No matter what challenge you bring with you - we will make sure that you can take off with us. It is important that you book by e-mail to [email protected] or by telephone on 052 511 80 40.
We prefer off-peak times and make a note of this internally for our instructors. This ensures optimal support.
If you are unsure or have any questions, please contact us.
Here is an overview of the impairments that can generally be flown with:
True to our motto "Anyone can fly", we have been having some amazing experiences for some time now with people who cannot easily spend a few carefree hours in the Windwerk due to their disabilities. We now know: There are no limits! Together with Bine Hirsiger (founder of the Challenge Camps Association and professional flyer), we therefore organize a free event several times a year.
Number of participants
A maximum of 8 people per event or by arrangement can take part in the flight experience. The person limit is checked and defined in the application process (see below) and depending on the existing impairments and communicated in the event of an invitation.
Additional information on impairments
Safety is our top priority. We therefore reserve the right not to admit people to the flight experience. To give you an overview of the impairments with which you can usually fly, here is a list:
– Physical disabilities (damage to the central nervous system, limbs and deformities)
– Sensory impairments (hearing, sight, touch or smell)
– Incomplete/complete paraplegia
– Boarderline (if caregivers are present)
Further *clarifications are required in the following cases:
– Muscular dystrophies
– Craniocerebral trauma / brain damage
– Spina bifida
– Mental and psychological impairments
– Stiffened spine
*Further clarifications must be made by the participants or their caregivers and via a medical specialist. Windwerk will provide support and the necessary information on request.
Clear exclusion criterion:
– osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease)
The examples listed above are not exhaustive.
Declaration of release from liability
Every person taking part in the flight experience must complete a declaration of release from liability.
Our charity events take place on weekdays in the morning. We will coordinate the date directly with you. The schedule could look like this:
11.00 am: Arrival and welcome
11.30 am: Training and equipment
12.00 pm: Flight experience in the wind tunnel
12.30 pm: End of flight experience and changing
12.45 pm: Possible departure
Important: You organize the arrival and departure yourself. Make sure that there are enough supervisors and caregivers present to support your group appropriately.
APPLICATION
Apply with your organization and take part in the lottery. With a bit of luck, you will receive an invitation to a free event.
DRAW & INVITATION
If your lot is drawn, you and your group will be invited to the next event by Challenge Camps and Windwerk. All important information and steps will be communicated to you in good time.
FEEDBACK
After the event you can give your feedback to improve future charity events. Thank you for your support!
This year’s vacation week theme was “Superheroes” – from Batman and Superman to everyday superheroes such as the police, fire department, ambulance service and bus drivers.
What impressed us during the application process was that the counselors consider their students to be the greatest superheroes because they master their lives with all kinds of special features. They have to face numerous tasks every day, overcome many obstacles in everyday life, fight against being different and sometimes even fight for survival because their bodies are not healthy. Our invitation came at just the right time.
Muscular dystrophy is the overarching term for a group of very different, chronic diseases of the skeletal muscles that are accompanied by a progressive loss of functional muscle substance. The cause of muscle atrophy in all of these diseases is damage to the muscle cells, which is still untreatable and can progress to the complete destruction of the affected muscles.
With this campaign, we want to show that, despite physical limitations, many things are possible that would be unthinkable for some.
Don’t limit yourself!
The course was organized by CAB (Swiss Caritas Action for the Blind). Thank you very much for this great opportunity!
