On 25. and 26. March 2022, the indoor skydiving scene will meet for the second time in Winterthur. We are delighted to be hosting the Swiss Championships and, together with the Swiss Skydive Association, are expecting over 60 sports pilots in seven competition disciplines. The majority of participants are passionate amateur teams who travel to Winterthur from all over Switzerland. Of course, we won’t miss the opportunity to enter several Windwerk teams at the start: From Customer Service and instructors to the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Windwerkers will be competing in various disciplines.
Visitors are very welcome on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. Admission is free. Spectators can watch the whirling in the wind tunnel and cheer on their favorites while enjoying trendy drinks and international snacks. The award ceremony will take place on Saturday at 19:00.
Outside of the bodyflying scene, hardly anyone knows anything about this sport, which is officially recognized by the FAI, the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale. The championships take place in seven competition disciplines:
- FS 4-way/2-way (formation skydiving for four/two)
- MFS 2-way (Mixed Formation Skydiving for two)
- Dynamic solo
- Dynamic 2-way
- Dynamic 4-way
- Freestyle
Depending on the discipline, there are different requirements for figures and transitions, which must be presented in a prone and vertical position – or even upside down. Over the past few weeks, we have shown the various disciplines on our social media channels – take a look here: LINKS. By the way: You can follow the Swiss Championships on our website in the YouTube livestream and on Twitch and find the highlights on Instagram.
Olivier Longchamp from Geneva and Benjamin Guex from Valais are the favorites to win the Dynamic 2-way. Olivier Longchamp has already taken part in and won various international competitions in different disciplines. In the 4-way skydiving formation discipline, the Airheads team with Alain Sigrist, Mario Keller, Roman Kühne and Stelio Jotti will be particularly exciting. Sandro Walther, Kim Bernhart, Martin Durrer and Philipp Gmür will be competing in Dynamic 4-way. The well-coordinated team will also be taking part in the FAI European Indoor Skydiving Championships in Belgium two weeks later.
The Swiss Championships are a qualifying competition for the second European Championships and the fourth World Cup (both in Charleroi, Belgium, from April 6 to 9, 2022). The winners in Winterthur can also look forward to a medal and free flight time as support for further training sessions.
We look forward to the competition days with a lot of joy, motivation and excitement. The compliment from Sandro Walther, the top Swiss indoor skydiver and Windwerk Chief Instructor, for whom the Windwerk is the best quality and most beautiful indoor skydiving facility he has ever seen in his flying career, gives us peace of mind. Merci vilmal!
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors and partners Sky Helmets, AXA, Best Catering, the City of Winterthur and the Swiss Skydive Association.
