Many people with disabilities - including wheelchair users - have already experienced unforgettable flying moments with us. It is important to us that everyone feels safe and in good hands with us.

No matter what challenge you bring with you - we will make sure that you can take off with us.
So that we can prepare ourselves optimally, we ask you to send your booking request via our contact form form.

We prefer to schedule flights at off-peak times so that our instructors can respond to your individual needs.

A moment of pure freedom: Giuliano rolls into the Windwerk in his wheelchair, eyes wide, heartbeat palpable. The team greets him warmly, equips him – and shows him: What counts here is what you can do, not what you need. Step by step, they enter the wind tunnel. First gently, then powerfully – until he takes off, carried by the airflow, free of boundaries. Curious, courageous, with a smile on his face, Giuliano experiences the most intense feeling of flying.
After the flight: goosebumps, tears, laughter. Proof that flying is possible for everyone. This experience gives courage, overcomes insecurity and opens doors – for you, for all of us.

We create unforgettable experiences for schools, institutions and foundations.

True to our motto “Everyone can fly”, we have already had many moving experiences with people who cannot easily enjoy a few carefree hours at Windwerk due to their disabilities. Today we know: There are no limits!

That’s why we are organizing – together with Bine Hirsiger (founder of the Challenge Camps Association and professional flyer) – we organize free charity events several times a year.

We have summarized exactly how such an event works and which framework conditions are important for you in a clear and simple way.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE EVENT

Number of participants
As a rule, a maximum of 8 people can take part in the flight experience per event. The person limit is checked and defined depending on the existing impairments.

Additional information on impairments
Safety is our top priority. We therefore reserve the right not to admit people to the flight experience. To give you an overview of the impairments with which you can usually fly, here is a list:
– Physical disabilities (damage to the central nervous system, limbs and deformities)
– Sensory impairments (hearing, sight, touch or smell)
– Incomplete/complete paraplegia
– Boarderline (if caregivers are present)

Further *clarifications are required in the following cases:
– Muscular dystrophies
– Craniocerebral trauma / brain damage
– Spina bifida
– Mental and psychological impairments
– Stiffened spine

*Further clarifications must be made by the participants or their caregivers and via a medical specialist. Windwerk will provide support and the necessary information on request.

Clear exclusion criterion:
– osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease)

The examples listed above are not exhaustive.

Conditions of participation
Every person taking part in the flight experience must complete the conditions of participation.

AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS

During the sports vacations, we hosted a group from the Maurerschule in Winterthur. They look after children and young people with physical and multiple disabilities and/or an autism spectrum disorder.

This year’s vacation week theme was “Superheroes” – from Batman and Superman to everyday superheroes such as the police, fire department, ambulance service and bus drivers.

What impressed us during the application process was that the counselors consider their students to be the greatest superheroes because they master their lives with all kinds of special features. They have to face numerous tasks every day, overcome many obstacles in everyday life, fight against being different and sometimes even fight for survival because their bodies are not healthy. Our invitation came at just the right time.

MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY

If you think there are limits, we are sorry to disappoint you. We are allowed to make dreams come true and break barriers! The kids had a lot of fun at the event.

Muscular dystrophy is the overarching term for a group of very different, chronic diseases of the skeletal muscles that are accompanied by a progressive loss of functional muscle substance. The cause of muscle atrophy in all of these diseases is damage to the muscle cells, which is still untreatable and can progress to the complete destruction of the affected muscles.

With this campaign, we want to show that, despite physical limitations, many things are possible that would be unthinkable for some.

PEOPLE WITH VISUAL IMPAIRMENT

Our instructor Novi already has experience in working with people with visual impairments and organized and led the flight course individually. He first let our guests run through the wind tunnel, whereupon they were allowed to feel the wind while standing. They then lay down on the net and used the slowly increasing wind to take off. We saw some really sensational performances from the first-time flyers – chapeau!

The course was organized by CAB (Swiss Caritas Action for the Blind). Thank you very much for this great opportunity!

FAQs

GOOD TO KNOW

Is indoor skydiving dangerous?
Indoor skydiving is not dangerous. It is flown in a controlled environment and an experienced and certified instructor is present at all times. Indoor skydiving is a fascinating game between body and air.

Is the Windwerk obstacle-free?
The Windwerk is designed to be barrier-free so that all visitors have easy access. An elevator is also available.

When do the charity events take place?
The flight dates have already been set. You can check the current availability via our contact form to inquire.

How big can a group be?
The maximum group size is 8 people. Individual impairments are taken into account. Larger groups are also possible by arrangement with Windwerk.

What do you want to wear?
Comfortable casual clothing is suitable for flying, preferably not skirts. Choose shoes with laces so that they fit well. If your shoes are not suitable, we will be happy to provide you with suitable shoes on site.

Are accompanying persons allowed in the wind tunnel?
Yes, caregivers may be present in the antechamber of the wind tunnel if the child feels unsafe and needs additional support.

Are memories captured?
Yes, photos and videos are taken on site. So you can experience and share the special moments again and again. Windwerk also uses these recordings for communication purposes – if you do not agree to this, please let us know in advance.

What are the costs?
The flight is free for children in the charity program. Accompanying adults pay the regular fare and can also enjoy the experience.

Unsere Kinder durften im Windwerk jeweils 2 × 4 Flüge erleben und waren total begeistert! Es hat ihnen riesigen Spass gemacht und wird ihnen sicher noch lange in Erinnerung bleiben. Ein grosses Dankeschön an unseren Instruktor Wirzu. Er war sehr freundlich, geduldig und hat unseren Kindern alles verständlich erklärt.
